Opposition parties to meet again on Thursday

Opposition parties will hold a second round of talks on Thursday after leaders, who met last night to discuss where they will stand in a bid to avoid three-cornered fights, said they had made progress.

With counter-proposals from the meeting in hand, they will now head back and report to their respective central executive committees and return to the Jalan Besar headquarters of the National Solidarity Party (NSP) - which hosted last night's gathering - on Thursday night for Round Two.

Party leaders and representatives were tight-lipped on the specifics of agreements reached, but The Straits Times understands that the Singapore People's Party will not face a challenge from the Democratic Progressive Party in its bid to contest Potong Pasir SMC.

But a major sticking point appears to be over constituencies the Workers' Party has declared it would contest, and which the NSP also wants: Marine Parade and Jalan Besar GRCs and the single seat of MacPherson.
