Orchard Road business leader awarded for place management efforts

SINGAPORE - Orchard Road Business Association (ORBA) Mrs May Sng today received the inaugural Place Champion Award from Place Management Coordinating Forum (PMCF).

Presented by Mr Lee Yi Shyan, Senior Minister of State for National Development, at the Place Management Seminar this morning, the award was given to Mrs Sng in recognition of her efforts to enliven Orchard Road and bring more footfall and spending to the precinct.

The Place Champion Award is an annual award given out for the first time this year by the PMCF which comprises the National Arts Council, National Heritage Board, Singapore Tourism Board, and Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).

The award recognises private sector individuals who have made significant place management contributions to their respective precincts, such as rejuvenating a precinct and encouraging other stakeholders to be more pro-active in place management.

Mrs Sng's notable projects include several signature events for the Orchard Road precinct, such as Fashion Steps Out, Rev-Up @ Orchard and Christmas on a Great Street, increasing vibrancy, footfall and visitor spending in the precinct. Under her leadership since 2006, the ORBA has also grown from 40 to more than 120 members today.
