Over 57,000 residents attended World Cup 'live' screenings at 58 Community Clubs

SINGAPORE - Over the past month, more than 570,000 residents visited 58 Community Clubs (CCs) islandwide to catch the exhilarating football action at the 'live' World Cup screenings.

The quarter-final match between France and Germany drew the largest crowd, registering more than 44,000 residents across all the CCs.

Residents also showed strong community spirit during the screenings, as residents of different ages and races cheered for the same team, neighbours arranged to watch the matches together and many residents volunteering to clean up the premises after the screenings. Some residents even bought food to share with the CC staff as a simple but warm gesture of thanks.

With the success of the World Cup screenings in bringing people together and fostering community bonds through sports, and with many indicating their interests in the various sports interest groups, The People's Association and the Community Sports Clubs will organise sports clinics and carnivals; as well as form more interest groups to nurture and sustain the interest of sports enthusiasts in the community.

Mr Ang Hak Seng, BBM, Chief Executive Director of PA said, "We are delighted that the World Cup screenings at the CCs has brought together so many families, friends and neighbours, and helped strengthen family bonds, friendships and neighbourliness. We thank residents for their overwhelming support and positive feedback, and will continue to work with partners to bring similar screenings to the CCs."

The World Cup 'live' screenings were organised by PA, in partnership with Singapore Pools and SingTel.
