PAP unveils line-up for new Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC

SINGAPORE - The People's Action Party (PAP) officially unveiled its candidates for Marsiling-Yew Tee Group Representative Constituency (GRC) on Friday morning.

The four-member team includes Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong, Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob, MPs Alex Yam and Ong Teng Koon.

This was announced at a void deck party at Block 3, Marsiling Drive.

Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC is the only new constituency created from the new electoral boundaries. It was created due to significant population growth in recent years, and consists of territory from the existing Chua Chu Kang GRC and Sembawang GRC.

According to The Straits Times, the new GRC has an estimated 107,527 voters, second highest among the current six four-member GRCs.

Mr Wong, 42, pledged to add more community spaces and programmes for residents, as well as to do more to help disadvantaged groups.

"This may be a new GRC but Marsiling is also one of the oldest estates in Singapore. We want to build on its rich history and do more for Marsiling-Yew Tee," said Mr Wong.

Mr Yam and Mr Ong are from Chua Chu Kang GRC and Sembawang GRC respectively, and will continue to serve their wards if elected.

Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) has indicated its interest in contesting.
