Passers-by nab snatch thief

GEORGE TOWN - Good Samaritans came to the aid of a snatch theft victim in Sungai Dua and apprehended one of the culprits yesterday. They responded fast to the screams of the victim, a 43-year-old factory operator, after a youth snatched her gold necklace and fled in the 10am incident.

A police spokesperson said the people chased the 21 year old, caught him and handed him over to the police but his accomplice, who was on a motorcycle, managed to escape.

"The woman was walking to the wet market alone when the two suspects intercepted her.

"The pillion rider got off the bike to approach her, pretending to be lost and needing directions before he snatched her necklace."

Due to the quick action of passers-by, the woman managed to get back her gold necklace, he said.
