Passersby help nab snatch thief in Woodlands

SINGAPORE - A 45-year-old snatch thief was arrested with the assistance from two public-spirited members of public.

At about 11.50pm on Feb 22, 2015, a 47-year-old woman was walking on the link bridge along Woodlands Road when the suspect snatched her handbag and fled towards the direction of Stagmont Ring.

The victim gave chase and shouted for help. Her cries attracted the attention of two members of the public, who gave chase and detained the man at a bus stop along Woodlands Road and handed him over to the police. The stolen handbag was also recovered.

The suspect will be charged in Court on Feb 24. If convicted, he may be jailed up to seven years and shall also be liable to caning.
