Pick of parties to count down to 2016

From fireworks at Marina Bay to heartland festivities in Woodlands and Sengkang, people in Singapore can choose to count down to the new year at events islandwide.

The largest countdown celebration will be at Marina Bay, culminating in an eight-minute fireworks extravaganza that will span the entire bay for the first time.

A light projection show on The Fullerton Hotel's facade is also among the offerings in the bay area, as is a waterfront bazaar that will open as early as 3pm.

Nearby, at the Float @ Marina Bay, Mediacorp's Celebrate concert will feature US singer Adam Lambert as well as local performers.

Should you not wish to jostle with the 300,000-strong crowd expected at Marina Bay, there are other events islandwide at which you can welcome 2016.

For those who would rather party closer to home, there will be heartland celebrations in Woodlands and Sengkang organised by the People's Association. At the Ang Mo Kio and Sengkang West countdown party at Sengkang Riverside Park, residents can join in a record-setting attempt to make a 3m by 2m word formation out of light sticks.

Between seven and 10 bulb- shaped plastic sky lanterns are also being prepared for them to pen down their wishes and reflections on the legacy of Singapore's late founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

Meanwhile, the Countdown @ North party in Woodlands will get the audience on its feet with a zumba workout. It expects to draw 8,000 residents, including about 100 needy families living in the area. They will be entertained by local celebrities such as Hossan Leong and singer Sufie Rashid, as well as a 10-minute fireworks display at the stroke of midnight.

Revellers can also dance through the night at venues such as Siloso Beach or iconic nightclub Zouk, which is holding its final countdown at its Jiak Kim Street premises before it moves to Clarke Quay in the new year.
