Pick up these figurines on trains - they are free

Miniature figurines of policemen and firefighters are keeping commuters company on select MRT trains.

The clay models representing Home Team national servicemen and their families, which hang from the handrail and are free to anyone who wants them, were created to recognise their contributions to Singapore. They are being distributed by the association for national servicemen from the Home Team, HomeTeamNS.

HomeTeamNS chief executive Agnes Eu explained: "Through this campaign, we hope to spread more awareness about our Home Team NSmen's contributions and simply tell them, 'Thank you for everything that you have done to protect and save lives'."

The limited edition run of 20,000 figurines was launched yesterday. One train on the North East Line will carry them until Jan 25, and one on the North South Line will carry them from Feb 21 until March 29. Both trains have specially decorated interiors.

Local artist and miniaturist Quek Kin crafted the figurines by hand. They come in a set of nine and are not for sale.

They can be found on hangers in the trains along with information about HomeTeamNS' new clubhouse facilities and membership package, and will be replenished on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Ms Eu, who was on the train to observe commuters' responses yesterday, said: "From their reactions I think people found it refreshing. Some were reading the information on the hangers and some took the figurines with them."
