SHAH ALAM: A plainclothes policeman was assaulted and stabbed after he asked a man not to smoke at a petrol station in Seksyen 7 here.
In the incident at 9am Thursday, Kpl Mohamad Azli Hashim, 32, was at the petrol station after sending his colleagues for a checkup at a nearby hospital.
He saw a man smoking and asked him to stop, saying it was dangerous, but the man ignored the advice.
Kpl Mohamad Azli, who is with the Selangor contingent headquarters Special Branch unit, then asked the man about a tattoo on his body.
Snubbing the question, the man walked back to his motorcycle parked nearby.
When Kpl Mohamad Azli followed him, the man became agitated, turned around and attacked him.
A struggle ensued and resulted in the policeman being stabbed in the right thigh, believed to be with a sharp object.
The man abandoned his motorcycle and fled, while members of the public helped send the policeman to Hospital Shah Alam.
Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Shafien Mamat said police have mounted a manhunt for the suspect, who is a local.
''The policeman received outpatient treatment and is resting.
''We urge anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and give us more details,'' he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.
