PM Lee gives Chinese New Year wishes on Facebook video

SINGAPORE - Fresh out of surgery, Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has posted a video on Facebook to wish everyone a "Happy Chinese New Year" this morning.

Speaking in both English and Mandarin, the video had been recorded before his prostate cancer surgery.

PM Lee underwent a successful operation to remove his cancerous prostate gland on Monday. He was discharged from Singapore General Hospital yesterday.

PM Lee's surgeon, Professor Christopher Cheng, had said in a statement yesterday: "PM's pathology report is good. The disease was small but potentially significant. We are very glad we were able to detect and remove it in time. PM should make a full recovery."

In his Chinese New Year message that was delivered yesterday, PM Lee had urged Singaporeans not to overlook the importance of strong families and their role as the bedrock of Singapore society.

"Our family ties must not weaken, unlike what we have seen in other societies, where the state has taken on more responsibility," said PM Lee.
