Police arrest man who stole phone from window

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 38-year-old man believed to broken into a residential unit at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5.

The arrest was made possible with the help of footage captured on police cameras near the residential unit.

The suspect is believed to have stolen a mobile phone from a shelf accessible from a home window facing the corridor on February 9.

He is also accused of trying to steal the victim's handbag from inside the living room with a bamboo pole. The suspect fled when the victim saw him.

His identity was established from footage captured on police cameras nearby, and he was arrested in the same area the next day.

If convicted, he could be jailed up to 14 years and caned.
