Police nab 90 in 4-day anti-loansharking operation

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested 90 suspects in an four-day island-wide operation last week targeting loansharking activities.

The 71 men and 19 women arrested in the operation, which took place between Oct 19 and Oct 22, are aged between 18 and 67, the police said in a Facebook post on Sunday (Oct 25).

One suspect is believed to have been running an unlicensed moneylending business.

The police also said that 11 suspects are believed to be runners for loansharks. Two of the suspects are believed to be harrassers who carried out acts like splashing paints and scrawling graffitti.

The remaining 76 suspects are believed to have opened bank accounts and given away their Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards to loansharks to facilitate the businesses.
