JOHOR BARU - Police have detained a 28-year-old man suspected of having abducted, raped and slashed a 10-year-old girl on her way to a religious school at Bukit Pasir in Muar on Jan 28.
The man was nabbed at a petrol station here Thursday.
The girl was walking to the religious school about two kilometres away from her house at around 1.30pm when a man in a silver Proton Saga knocked her down, hauled her into the car and drove to a secluded area where he raped her, said Johor police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff.
He said the parents made a police report an hour later.
"Upon receiving the report, police immediately set-up a task force to locate the man and the girl," he said in a press conference at the state police headquarters here.
Fifteen minutes later, police spotted a man at a petrol station along Jalan Bakri and promptly arrested him.
"The girl was found sitting in the front passenger seat with blood stains on her school uniform," he said, adding she had slash wounds on her abdomen and private parts.
The girl is admitted at the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar.
