Police warn of lottery scam

SINGAPORE - The police on Thursday warned people to be wary of a lottery scam involving an e-mail purportedly sent by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) with its logo.
They said a report was lodged on Wednesday about an e-mail purportedly sent by an airline informing the recipient that a lottery prize amounting to over US$100,000 (S$126,000) had been won.
Subsequently, the complainant received another email, purportedly sent by the SPF to verify the complainant's "winning" status as the recipient of the airline company's lottery programme.
"This is a scam," said the police in a release on Thursday. Anyone who receives such e-mails should call the police.
