Pregnant woman catches shoplifter after 100m chase

KUANTAN - A four-month pregnant businesswoman managed to catch a shoplifter after chasing him for about 100 metres at Teluk Chempedak here early today . Kodeeyah Leeae, 26, said the 17-year-old youth was arrested with the help of several people who saw her chasing the suspect who had earlier stolen a t-shirt worth RM130 (S$50) from her shop.

"The youth entered my premises with two friends four times before he placed the t-shirt in a plastic bag. When I approached him, he immediately fled the scene," said Kodeeyah.

Ahmad Jalaluddin Abdul Jamil, 24, said he helped Kodeeyah catch the suspect when he heard the woman screaming for help while chasing the youth .

"Although there were three of them, we only managed to nab the youth who carried the bag. The other two had fled into the nearby jungle," said Jalaluddin who operates a stall at Teluk Chempedak.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Jasmani Yusof confirmed the 12.30am incident and said the suspect was handed over to the police by members of the public .
