President hails trio for overcoming odds

SINGAPORE - President Tony Tan Keng Yam met Mr Jason Chee, Ms Aishah Samad and Mr Nick Vujicic at the Istana on Saturday morning.

In a Facebook post, President Tan said that in spite of their physical limitations, the trio chose to focus on what they can do instead of what they cannot do. He said he was deeply touched by their resilience, enthusiasm for life, and passion in pursuing their dreams and in helping others.

Mr Chee, a navy serviceman, lost his legs in a ship accident in December 2012. He also lost his left arm and three fingers on his right hand in the same accident.

Ms Aishah, a former national shooter, contracted a severe bacterial infection in July 2012 which eventually led to the amputation of her arms and legs.

Mr Vujicic was born without limbs and travels around the world to share his positive outlook on life.
