President Tony Tan visiting China for Youth Olympics opening, talks with counterpart

NANJING, China - PRESIDENT Tony Tan Keng Yam will arrive here on Friday to attend the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympics Games (YOG) opening ceremony. His three-day visit is at the invitation of China's President Xi Jinping.

Here's the statement from the President's office: 

SINGAPORE - President Tony Tan Keng Yam will be in the People's Republic of China from Aug 15-17 and Germany from Aug 19-22.

During President Tony Tan's absence, Mr J Y Pillay, Chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisers, will exercise the functions of the office of the President of the Republic of Singapore.

President Tan will be in Nanjing, China from Aug 15-17 at the invitation of People's Republic of China President Xi Jinping to attend the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympics Games (YOG) Opening Ceremony.

A bilateral meeting between President Tan and President Xi will take place on the sideline of the Games.

President Tan will also meet with Team Singapore youth athletes participating in the Nanjing YOG. President Tan will be accompanied by officials from the President's Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Following the YOG in Nanjing, President Tan will be attending the 5th Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences, in Lindau, Germany from Aug 19-22 in his capacity as a member of the Honorary Senate of the Foundation of Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings.

While in Germany, President Tan will visit the Max Planck Society on 21 August 2014 and visit Mittelstand companies Rohde & Schwarz and Wacker Chemical in Munich on Aug 22.
