Promoting the arts in schools

SINGAPORE - The National Arts Education Award (NAEA) recognises arts education efforts in schools and provides them with grants to implement art-related programmes.

Introduced in 2003, the collaboration between the Ministry of Education and the National Arts Council has seen participation from more than 200 schools so far.

The schools will use the NAEA framework to guide their arts programme from policy planning to implementation.

This year, 56 schools were awarded and the Arts Development Fund gave out more than $160,000.

More than half of the recipients were first-time applicants of the award.

Four schools achieved the highest accolade, the NAE Blaze award, for championing the arts and acting as role models for other schools.
