PSI at high end of unhealthy range on Thursday

SINGAPORE - The haze conditions continued to affect Singapore on Thursday morning, with the 24-hour PSI hitting the Unhealthy to Very Unhealthy range.

The reading as of 11am was 157-200, with the 3-hour PSI at 167.

According to the National Environment Agency (NEA) on Wednesday evening, hazy conditions are expected to continue today, and may deterioriate to the mid-section of the Very Unhealthy range (201-300) if denser haze is blown in.

In a statement on Wednesday evening, the Ministry of Education said the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) will begin as scheduled on Thursday and schools will remain open.

MOE said that candidates with underlying medical conditions or who feel unwell should seek medical attention. "Those who are medically certified unwell and are unable to sit for the examinations should inform their schools," it added. 

NEA issues notice to 5th Indonesian company

The NEA said it has issued a Preventive Measures Notice to another Indonesian company, namely, PT Bumi Mekar Hijau. This is in addition to earlier notices sent to four Indonesian companies. Under the notice, NEA has requested PT Bumi Mekar Hijau to carry out the following:

- Deploy fire-fighting personnel to extinguish or prevent the spread of any fire on land owned or occupied by them;
- Discontinue, or not commence, any burning activities on such land;
- Submit to NEA any plan of action to extinguish any fire on such land or to prevent its recurrence.
