PUB given international award by global desalination body

SINGAPORE - Singapore's national water agency PUB was conferred the Presidential Award by the International Desalination Association (IDA) in Tianjin, China yesterday.

The award was given to recognise its long-standing commitment to the sustainability of water and desalination, as well as the special relationship between the two organisations.

PUB has collaborated on a number of events and initiatives with IDA, which is the world's leading resource for information and professional development for the global desalination industry. It is also the only global association focused exclusively on desalination and desalination technologies.

The two organised the 2005 IDA World Congress in Singapore and the launch of the IDA Desalination Academy. Both are also continuing cooperation on Singapore International Water Week (SIWW).

PUB Chief Executive Chew Men Leong received the award from Dr Corrado Sommariva, President of IDA at the gala dinner of the IDA World Congress 2013 held in Tianjin, China on Monday.

"We are honoured to receive the Presidential award from IDA. This is a testimony of the progress we have made in the field of water and desalination, as well as the good working relationship we have enjoyed with IDA in the last 12 years," said Mr Chew Men Leong.

Dr Corrado Sommariva, President of IDA remarked: "Recognised around the world as a pioneer in water initiatives, PUB has always promoted sustainability, environmental stewardship and innovation in its programs in Singapore as well as worldwide."

PUB has been a member of IDA since 2001.
