Recognised for overseas community work

SINGAPORE - This group of young Singaporeans seen with Acting Minister for Social and Family Development, and Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence Chan Chun Sing spent an extraordinary three weeks out of their comfort zones by building a library and cleaning, refurbishing and painting a school in a village in India's Punjab state.

They were part of Project Khwaish XII, Young Sikh Association (Singapore)'s community service project from Dec 6 to 26 last year. The minister presented certificates to them at a ceremony on July 12.

The team of undergraduates had a National Institute of Education-trained teacher and a dentist with them. They helped conduct training workshops for teachers and personal hygiene classes for the school's children.
