RedMart withdraws sale of APP paper products due to haze allegations

SINGAPORE - Online grocer RedMart has announced it will be withdrawing all paper products sourced from Asia Pulp & Paper Group (APP), after the company was allegedly found to be among those linked to the haze-causing forest fires in Indonesia.

It said in a statement on Monday that the withdrawals will take effect from 6pm. Products affected by the withdrawal include Paseo and NICE brands.

Investigations by the Singapore Environment Council (SEC) and the National Environment Agency (NEA) had led to a temporary restriction of APP's "Singapore Green Label" certification.

According to RedMart, it carries 13 other paper products that are certified with the Singapore Green Label, including their house-brand paper products, which are fully certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC).

It added: "We remain deeply committed to supporting sustainably and responsibly sourced products; and encourage our suppliers and partners to adopt sustainable practices in their operations."
