Remanded - teacher who allegedly molested disabled student

BATU PAHAT: A special education teacher, arrested here for allegedly molesting a 15-year-old disabled girl, has been put under remand until Aug 6. District police chief Asst Comm Din Ahmad said so far, three people had had their statements recorded.

"We are also looking for several students to help us in the investigations," he said yesterday.

The 40-year-old man was detained by the police on Friday after the girl, who is hearing impaired, lodged a police report against him.

The incident allegedly occurred in May when the teacher took the girl and two other students for a dancing activity in the neighbouring district of Kluang.

The girl had claimed that the teacher drove her and one of her schoolmates to his home in Batu Pahat, where he had touched her inappropriately.

Police believed there were unreported cases involving the same man and had urged all victims to come forward.

The mother of the alleged victim had said that she did not suspect there was anything amiss with her daughter until two weeks ago when she was trying to help her with a mathematics problem.

The girl then told her mother about the alleged incident.
