Residents in 4 sectors to pay more for waste collection from next month

SINGAPORE - People living in the Ang Mo Kio-Toa Payoh, Hougang-Punggol, Woodlands-Yishun and Tanglin-Bukit Merah sectors will be paying more waste collection fees from Jan 1, 2015.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) said in a statement today that residents in these sectors will join the Uniform Fee (UF) scheme for the collection of refuse from domestic premises.

The four sectors are the last to join the UF scheme, since the scheme's introduction in 2012.

Under the scheme, households in Singapore will pay a common, or uniform, fee for "the same tier of refuse collection services", said NEA. Residents in HDB flats will pay $7.49 each month, while those in landed properties will pay $24.81 per month.

HDB residents in these sectors currently pay between $4.82 and $5.81; landed-property residents now pay between $17.12 and $19.75.

NEA said that the next review of the UF will be in Jan 2017.
