Restoration works on Merlion statue extended until Christmas Eve

SINGAPORE - Fans will have to wait a little longer to get up close with the iconic Merlion statue at the Merlion Park at One Fullerton, as it will continue to be hoarded up for ongoing restoration works which have been extended to Christmas Eve.

In a statement on Monday, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) explained that the current restoration works were to replace faulty water basin lights at the statue's base.

"The statue will be available for photo-taking from Dec 25, 2015 to Jan 3, 2016," STB said.

However, it will be hoarded up again for regular cleaning from Jan 4 to 8 next year.

"We seek the public's understanding as the works and barricades may cause some inconvenience," STB added, while also welcoming members of the public to take photos with the Merlion cub statue at the park.
