Robbers held after ramming roadblock and high-speed chase

KUALA LUMPUR - Three suspected armed robbers have been arrested after taking police and Road Transport Department (JPJ) personnel on a high-speed chase.

The three, together with another accomplice who is at large, ran a roadblock manned by three JPJ personnel at KM12.9 of the Middle Ring Road 2 here.

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahim Abdullah said the incident happened at 3.26am yesterday.

"The JPJ personnel were manning the roadblock near Batu Caves when the driver of an Isuzu D-Max pickup truck rammed into the traffic cones placed along the side of the road and tried to escape towards Greenwood.

"The officers quickly got into a JPJ Toyota Fortuner and gave chase," he said.

He said the three personnel in the car noticed one of the suspects pointing an object resembling a gun at them during the chase.

"The suspects then drove into opposing traffic heading towards Taman Sri Gombak, and again one of them pointed the object at the JPJ personnel.

ACP Abdul Rahim said the chase continued until the suspects escaped near Taman Sri Gombak Phase 3.

"Police, on duty in the area, managed to track them down and another chase ensued until the car skidded into a ditch along Jalan Ulu Yam/Selayang.

"We managed to arrest one of the suspects while the others escaped into the jungle," he said, adding that subsequently two more suspects were arrested with the help of K-9 units," he said.

ACP Abdul Rahim said those arrested were aged between 20 and 22.

"We also seized two parang, a pocket knife and a crowbar from the Isuzu which was reported stolen near Selayang recently," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 395 and Section 506 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and criminal intimidation.
