SAF to conduct military exercises from Aug 24-31

SINGAPORE - The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will be conducting military exercises in several areas around Singapore from Aug 24 to Aug 31, said the Defence Ministry (Mindef) in a statement today.

Military exercises will be held in Seletar, Marsiling, Jalan Bahar, Neo Tiew, Lim Chu Kang, Jalan Kwok Min, Tuas, Upper Jurong, Hong Kah, Ama Keng, Bedok Jetty, Kranji, Lentor, Simpang, Sembawang, Mandai from 8am on Aug 24 to 8am on Aug 31.

Blanks and thunderflashes will be used.

SAF will also be conducting live firing exercises in Pasir Laba (SAFTI) Live Firing Area on the same dates and times.

Live ammunition and flares will be used, and sea vessels and crafts sailing through the Western Johor Straits at those times are to keep within the 75m navigable sea lane and not stray into the live firing boundary.

Mindef advised members of the public not to be alarmed during the exercises, and to keep clear of these areas.

Meanwhile, the islands of Pulau Sudong, Pulau Senang and Pulau Pawai have been proclaimed as maoeuvring and firing grounds.

The public is advised to keep clear of these islands, and also to stay clear of the prohibited waters off Changi Naval Base and Tuas Naval Base.

Finally, the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) will have live firing exercises from 7am to 11pm daily from Aug 24 to Aug 28, and from 8am to 1pm on Aug 29.

Flares will be released during the night firing.
