Bronze for rower Sayidah

SEA Games 2013 gold medallist Sayidah Aisyah bagged bronze on the first day of the rowing competition yesterday.

Indonesia's Maryam Makdalena won the women's lightweight single sculls 500m while Thailand's Phuttharaksa Neegree took silver.

Vietnam dominated the 500m races at the Marina Channel, winning four out of the eight events.

Local petanque doubles exit

Both Singapore men's and women's doubles petanque teams have been eliminated after the preliminary rounds yesterday.

The men's team of Cheng Zhi Ming and Goh Wee Teck won three out of seven games, beating Cambodia, Myanmar (both 13-0) and Brunei (13-4) but losing to Malaysia (2-13), Laos (4-13) and Thailand (9-13).

The women's duo of Vicki Heo and Janice Tan won only once out of seven games, narrowly beating the Philippines 11-10.

Thais, Filipinos cruise in tennis

Both Thailand and the Philippines kept up their strong performances in the SEA Games tennis competition yesterday at the Kallang Tennis Centre.

Thai 2014 Asian Games women's doubles gold medallist Tamarine Tanasugarn was untroubled in her mixed doubles quarter-final win with Sanchai Ratiwana over Syed Naguib and Jawairiah Noordin of Malaysia 6-0, 6-2.

The Filipino women's doubles pairing of Denise Dy and Katharina Lehnert beat Singapore's Stefanie Tan and Wee Khee Yen 6-4, 7-5 in their first-round match.

S'pore cagers stay on course

Singapore's men's basketball team notched their third straight pool victory, beating Cambodia 83-67 to remain top of Pool B.

They face Thailand - who are also unbeaten - today, in what is likely to be a match to decide the Pool B winners and avoid powerhouses Philippines in the semi-finals.

Takraw doubles side well beaten

Singapore's sepak takraw men's doubles team lost 0-2 to Thailand and had to settle for bronze in the event at Singapore Expo Hall 2 yesterday.

The hosts lost the first regu 12-21, 13-12, and the second regu 10-21, 9-21. Thailand move on to face Myanmar in today's final.

Triyaningsih on the double

Indonesian runner Triyaningsih completed a SEA Games long-distance double at the National Stadium yesterday, when she won the 10,000m in 33min 44.53sec, 77 seconds ahead of Vietnam's Pham Thi Hue.

The 28-year-old won the 5,000m on Tuesday in 16:18.06 and she said two days' recovery was not enough for her to improve her personal best of 32:49.47 over the longer distance.
