Search and rescue operations for missing barge crew continues

SINGAPORE - Search and rescue (SAR) efforts for the missing crew members from the Mongolian-flagged barge Guo Liang 677 continued on for the sixth day.

On Sunday one body was recovered from the capsized barge, and the Malaysian owners of the barge had made arrangements to have the body sent to Malaysia.

The barge had capsized on July 24 in Singapore waters about 13km north of Horsburgh Lighthouse.

One crew member was rescued by a PCG patrol craft in the area, while another crew member was rescued by a vessel in the vicinity, both were sent to Malaysia. 7 crew members are still missing.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has been coordinating the SAR efforts which has involved a total of two Super Puma helicopters and two Fokker-50 Maritime Patrol Aircraft from the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF), six patrol vessels from the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), six Police Coast Guard (PCG) patrol craft, divers and three diving support vessels, and 180 passing commercial vessels as of 6pm on Monday.
