Search for missing barge crew continues

SINIGAPORE - Search-and-rescue operations continued for a seventh day yesterday for the four missing crew members of the capsized Bolivia-flagged barge Heng Hong 168, said the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

As of 5pm yesterday, the operations involved two air force Super Puma helicopters, three navy patrol vessels, three Police Coast Guard patrol craft, assets from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, the Royal Malaysian Navy and Indonesia's Rescue Sub-centre Tanjung Pinang, divers and a diving support vessel from Resolve Salvage & Fire (Asia), and 225 passing commercial vessels, MPA said.

On Tuesday, MPA said Indonesian authorities reported that they had recovered a body off Tanjung Pinang.

But it was not yet clear whether this is one of the missing crew members from the Heng Hong 168, which capsized on Dec 19 about three nautical miles (5.6km) west of the Horsburgh Lighthouse.
