Sibling steps in to take brunt of drunken father's temper

KAJANG - A man hugged his cowering stepsister on the floor of their home and shielded her as their drunken father buried a kitchen knife into his arm and back.

The 63-year-old father had stumbled home in a drunken stupor at about 11pm on Sunday to find his two children anxiously waiting for him in the living room of their Taman Balakong Jaya house.

Appalled by her father's drunken condition, the 38-year-old daughter began to scold the man.

The drunk became angry and got into a scuffle with his daughter while his stepson tried to separate them.

"That was when the suspect ran into the kitchen to get a knife. He lunged at her with the weapon and attempted to slash her with it.

"However, her stepbrother stepped in the way and covered her," said Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab.

"The suspect slashed the 28-year-old in his right arm and back," he said.

After slashing his son, the man left the victim lying in a pool of blood with the daughter still under him.

The victim was sent to the Kajang Hospital where he received 10 stitches.

He was discharged on Monday. The stepsister was unhurt.

ACP Abdul Rashid said police arrested the father at their home on the same night and he would be in remand until tomorrow.
