Singapore Airlines customers given extra 10kg baggage allowance

SINGAPORE - Singapore Airlines customers will enjoy an extra 10kg checked baggage allowance from Friday (Nov 15). This applies to all SIA and SilkAir flights.

This will apply to all classes of travel. Customers flying by Suites and First Class will enjoy up to 50kg of free baggage allowance, Business Class customers will enjoy 40kg and those in Economy Class will get 30kg.

For flights to and from the United States, where a per-piece allowance applies, customers in Suites, First Class and Business Class will be entitled to check in two pieces of luggage of up to 32kg each - a 9kg increase.

"Increasing baggage allowances across all classes of travel is in response to feedback from our customers and reaffirms our commitment to constantly enhancing customer service," said SIA Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing, Mr Chin Yau Seng.

KrisFlyer Elite Gold and Star Alliance Gold members will continue to enjoy an extra 20kg of baggage allowance across all travel classes, or one extra piece of checked-in baggage when travelling to or from the United States and Brazil, the airline said in a statement.

PPS Club members will also continue to be entitled to double the checked-in baggage allowance in their respective class of travel.

Similarly, in February this year, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) rolled out a new baggage policy that provides an additional 10kg of free checked baggage.

Each MAS passenger on economy, business and first class enjoy a 30kg, 40kg and 50kg free baggage allowance respectively.
