SINGAPORE - The inaugural Singapore Jewellery and Gem Fair opened at Marina Bay Sands on Saturday with US$1 billion worth of jewellery and gems on display, making it the largest such fair to be staged in Singapore.

The inaugural Singapore Jewellery & Gem Fair opens its doors today with an array of fine jewellery and gems worth US$1 billion, making the regional Fair the largest of its kind to be staged in Singapore. The Fair runs till next Tuesday, Oct 15.

Held at Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands Halls A, B and C, the Fair occupies 9,380sqm of exhibition space, far surpassing all other Fairs held in Singapore in scale so far.

The Fair has twelve pavilions including three special-themed pavilions such as the Antique Pavilion - the first such showcase in Singapore - and the Designer Atelier and the Exquisite Pavilion.

The nine other pavilions showcase pieces from countries such as China, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Thailand and USA.

The Fair has the largest showing of international exhibitors in Singapore to date. With 283 prominent exhibitors from 28 countries, visitors will be dazzled by the industry's best including diamond experts from Belgium, Hong Kong, India, Israel and Switzerland, pearl specialists from Indonesia, Japan and the UK, and many long-standing veteran jewellers.

The inaugural Singapore Jewellery & Gem Fair was also the centre stage for the 5th Singapore Jewellery Design Award (SJDA) which recognises budding young designers. The Award saw close to 2,000 entries from 39 countries. The Fair will also host an initiative called 'I am brilliant, too' that aims to uncover talented local designers.
