Singapore Red Cross to send 4 teams to Nepal, sets up donation channels

SINGAPORE - A response team from the Singapore Red Cross will be in Nepal on Wednesday, said the humanitarian organisation in a statement on Monday.

The team will be there to ascertain the needs on the ground.

Three medical teams will thereafter be deployed in support of the relief efforts, said Singapore Red Cross. The first team is expected to be on the ground later this week.

It added that it is curently in contact with other humanitarian organisation partners, including Nepal Red Cross, to closely monitor the situation in affected areas.

Singapore Red Cross, which has donated $50,000 worth of relief items and emergency supplies so far, said it will extend its office hours to receive walk-in donations and have set up other channels through which the public can donate.

Walk-in cash donations will be accepted at the Red Cross House at 15 Penang Lane from 9.30am to 7.45pm on Mondays to Fridays, and 10am to 3pm on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Other donation channels include cheque, ATM fund transfer, electronic fund transfer and Internet banking.
