Singapore wins bid to host the 2019 Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress

SINGAPORE - Singapore has won the rights to host the 26th Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) World Congress 2019.

The one-year bid proposal was a joint effort between the Land Transport Authority (LTA), Intelligent Transportation Society Singapore (ITSS), Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore).

The international event, held annually since 1994, is a platform for governments, companies, and academic/research institutions to exchange information and showcase the latest global ITS products, services, and upcoming trends, LTA said in a statement today.

The host of the ITS Congress is rotated among three major geographical regions - America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

Melbourne will host the next ITS World Congress in the Asia-Pacific region in 2016, and Singapore will host the following ITS World Congress in the Asia-Pacific Region in 2019.

Mr Chew Men Leong, Chief Executive of the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said: "We are honoured to be chosen to host the ITS World Congress in 2019. With Singapore moving towards being a Smart Nation, we are well placed to host this prestigious event.

"We will take this opportunity to showcase how we have been able to use smart technology and other innovative ways to transform our land transport systems and, in turn, improve travelling experience of all users."
