Singaporean found with drugs hidden inside cabbages

SINGAPORE - A Singaporean man was arrested on Thursday morning after heroin was found concealed in cabbage heads found in the plastic bags he was carrying.

The 46-year-old is a suspected drug trafficker who was being watched by officers from the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB). On Thursday, he was seen approaching a Malaysia-registered lorry at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8.

He was seen handing over a plastic bag to one of the passengers in the lorry, and received four other plastic bags in return.

Officers arrested the man after following him to a nearby coffeeshop. A total of eight bundles of heroin were found concealed within the cabbage in his bags.

The lorry was also stopped at Woodlands Checkpoint a while later and three Malaysian men were placed under arrest. Cash amounting to $18,500 was found in a plastic bag behind the driver's seat.

Investigations are ongoing.

If convicted, the four may face the death penalty as more than 15g of heroin was found in this case.
