Slightly hazy conditions expected to continue on Wednesday

SINGAPORE - The air quality is expected to remain in the unhealthy range on Wednesday.

According to the National Environment Agency (NEA), there had been a slight deterioration in haze and visibility conditions on Tuesday, due to haze from the surrounding region being blown in by weak prevailing winds.

As of 9pm on Tuesday, the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) was between 117 and 138. A 24-hour PSI reading of between 101 and 200 is considered to be within the 'unhealthy' range.

Meanwhile, the three-hour PSI as of 9pm is 102, an improvement from the reading of 119 at 6pm.

NEA said that slightly hazy conditions can be expected tomorrow, while visibility could be reduced, particularly in the early morning.

The agency added that thundery showers are expected in the late morning and the early afternoon, but that the 24-hour PSI is expected to remain in the low to mid section of the unhealthy range.

With the present air quality forecast, healthy people are advised to reduce prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical exertion, according to NEA's health advisory. The elderly, pregnant women and children should minimise outdoor activities, while persons with chronic lung or heart disease should avoid outdoor activities.
