Snatch thief arrested

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 30-year-old man who is believed to be involved in a case of snatch theft along North Bridge Road.

On April 29, at about 7.50pm, the suspect snatched a sling bag from the 25-year-old female victim who was walking along North Bridge Road. The suspect fled when the victim shouted. The victim and two members of the public gave chase but to no avail.

Officers from the Central Police Division established the suspect's identity after conducting ground enquiries and viewing CCTV footage at the vicinity. The suspect was arrested along Tampines Street 73 on May 2 at about 11.30am. The victim's sling bag was also recovered and seized as case exhibits.

Investigations are on-going. The suspect will be charged in court on May 3 for the offence of Snatch Theft, which carries a maximum punishment of seven years' imprisonment and caning.
