Sofa thrown from 4th storey

Sofa thrown from 4th storey

SINGAPORE - A woman heading home after doing her grocery shopping got the shock of her life when a sofa thrown from a HDB block narrowly missed her as she walked past.

The incident happened on Tuesday at about 1.20pm near Block 492, Jurong West Street 41.

Mr Salim, who runs an ornaments store at the block, told Shin Min Daily News that the woman, who looked to be in her 40s, had just finished her shopping at a supermarket in the next block.

She was walking past his shop when the sofa came crashing down.

He said that there was a loud bang when the sofa landed. The woman screamed and ran under the block to call the police.

Mr Salim, 63, said the sofa had missed hitting the woman by mere centimetres.

He described the sofa as a two-seater with wooden legs and added that if it had hit her, she would have been badly hurt.

The New Paper understands that the sofa was thrown from the fourth storey.

The police arrived soon after and were seen questioning three young men, one at the foot of the block and two on the fourth storey.

Residents said that the sofa had been left at the staircase landing on the fourth storey since a week ago. There is no lift serving the four-storey block.
