SPCA dogs get taste of early Christmas treat

For dogs at an animal shelter in Singapore, this is also the season to be jolly.

Tuesday, Christmas came early for some 60 canines at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) as they wolfed down a three-tiered cake that was donated to the shelter along Mount Vernon Road.

Made from a dog-friendly recipe, the 5kg cake was part of an auction organised by the People for Animal Welfare (PAW), a club at the Singapore Management University.

Held in September in celebration of World Animal Day on Oct 4, the auction aimed to raise funds for the SPCA.

The cake, sponsored by pet bake shop The Barkery, received the highest bid of $1,000 from an anonymous bidder, who decided to donate the cake to SPCA. She also contributed an additional $444.20 to the shelter.

Said executive director of SPCA Corinne Fong: "We're thankful to the donor for her donation and to PAW and The Barkery for putting together the auction and the cake."
