Special coin is top choice for Jubilee Baby Gift

Voting on the set of items that will be given to Singaporean babies born next year ended last Thursday with close to 20,000 votes.

Out of more than 6.500 item suggestions, top on the wish list was a special medallion or coin, which captured 61% of the total votes.

Next on the list was a multi-functional shawl, which lagged behind with 47% of votes.

The National Population and Talent Division (NPTD) said on its website there was a variety of different approaches when choosing items for the Jubilee Baby Gift. Some looked for items that would serve parents in a practical manner, while others chose a gift that would provide historical significance when the baby grew up.

The NPTD also gave a set of 5 stones - a common child's game in Singapore during the 70's and 80's, to every participant to inject a little nostalgia and heritage into the exercise.
