SPH raises $203,000 for President's Challenge 2016

SINGAPORE - The Chinese Media Group of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) has raised $203,000 for President's Challenge 2016 this year.

It will organise a fund-raising event called "A Colourful Evening @ Gardens by the Bay" on Sept 4 for President's Challenge 2016. The charity event, supported by People's Association and Gardens by the Bay, is part of this year's Mid-Autumn @ Gardens by the Bay.

Apart from raising funds for charity, the event also promotes family bonding. About 2,000 participants are expected to take part in this colouring event.

Participants who paid $10 to register for the event will receive a bento-set dinner and a goodie bag containing a copy of U-Weekly, a set of colour pencils and a chance to take part in a lucky draw. Net proceeds from the registration fees will be donated to the 58 appointed beneficiaries under President's Challenge 2016.

President Tony Tan Keng Yam will grace the event as Guest of Honour. He will mingle with the participants and add final touches to a colouring sheet featuring a beautiful landscape of Gardens by the Bay.

He will receive a cheque of $203,000 from Mr Anthony Tan, Deputy CEO of SPH and Mr Seow Choke Meng, Business Consultant of Chinese Media Group and Times Properties, SPH, at the event. The amount is raised through donations made by donors as well as registration fees from the colouring event.

Launched in 2000, President's Challenge is a series of charity events to rally Singaporeans from all walks of life to help raise funds for the social service sector. Since 2002, the SPH's Chinese Media Group has organised many community events to raise funds for President's Challenge.

SPH, as a Group, has also supported President's Challenge as a media sponsor through the years with sponsorship of advertisement space in major newspapers, including The Straits Times and Lianhe Zaobao.

This year, in addition to print ads, SPH also sponsored online ads to promote the Challenge.

The sponsors and donors for the funds raised by SPH for President's Challenge 2016 are Dato' Sri Prof Dr Tahir, Mr Jiang Ler, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Dato' Seri Toh Soon Huat BBM, Mr Robson Lee and Neo Group Limited.
