PETALING JAYA - A man, described as an "animal" by the authorities, has been arrested for allegedly raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter twice a week for nearly a year.
The 34-year-old unemployed man, who was arrested at 4am on Friday, confessed to the crime that took place at their home in Kampung Cheras Baru.
In the report lodged by the child's mother, the girl said the man had been raping her since December last year.
She said he would rape her in her bedroom or take her to his before forcing himself on her.
The man allegedly did this whenever her mother was out working and her siblings were playing outside.
"She can't remember how many times he has done it to her. She told us that it has happened too many times - maybe even twice a week," said Ampang Jaya OCPD ACP Khairuldin Saad.
"She did not speak up because she was afraid," he added.
However, on Friday, she could not stand it anymore and told her horrified mother.
The factory clerk immediately packed up their belongings and took her four children to stay with her relatives in Bukit Permai.
The 30-year-old then lodged a police report and her husband was arrested the same day.
The girl is the only child from the mother's previous marriage. She has two stepbrothers and a stepsister from her mother's current marriage to the suspect.
"They have been married for about 10 years. The girl and her family are now seeking medical and psychological treatment.
"We will be investigating this case thoroughly," said ACP Khairuldin.
The suspect has been remanded until Thursday.
