Supreme Court to get one more Judge and Judicial Commissioner

SINGAPORE - Mr George Wei Sze Shun and Ms Foo Tuat Yien will be appointed as a Judge and Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court respectively on May 25.

Their appointments to the Supreme Court bench by President Tony Tan was announced in a statement today.

Mr Wei, 60, is currently a Judicial Commissioner, and was previously a professor at the Singapore Management University.

Ms Foo, 61, is presently a Senior District Judge at the State Courts. She joined the Legal Service in 1976 and held various appointments in the Subordinate Courts and State Courts. The National University of Singapore Law graduate was also the Assistant Chief Executive of the Competition Commission of Singapore from 2005 to 2009.

Both Mr Wei and Ms Foo will be sworn in at a ceremony to be held at the Istana on May 26. The Supreme Court will have a total of 14 Judges (including the Chief Justice), 10 Judicial Commissioners, five Senior Judges and 12 International Judges thereafter.
