Surgery to reattach elderly woman's hand fails

SINGAPORE - Doctors have failed to reattach an elderly woman's hand which was severed in a lift accident, The New Paper reported.

Madam Khoo Bee Hua came out of a four-hour surgery at the National University Hospital at 2am on Saturday, crying out "no more hand" to her son.

The 85-year-old is believed to have tried to stop the lift doors from closing by putting her hand in between. However, the lift at Block 332 Tah Ching Road in Taman Jurong moved up and cut off her hand. Her dog, which she had been walking, was suspended in mid-air outside of the lift as she had been holding onto its leash.

Outdated sensors and a mechanical fault have been quoted as probable causes of the accident.
