Tampines Ave 2 engulfed in smoke after rubbish catches fire

Stomp reader Melvin noticed thick smoke surrounding his flat at Tampines Avenue 2 this afternoon, and realised that there was a fire.

He says that branches and leaves in nearby metal chutes had caught fire, and rain made the smoke even thicker.

Melvin, a resident at Tampines Street 22, said:

"Looked out of my window and saw that there was a lot of smoke. When i went downstairs, I noticed that rubbish in the metal chute had caught fire."

Melvin, who added that SCDF personnel responded within five minutes, also mentioned:

"The smoke still envelops the area even after the SCDF and police have gone back, due to the rain."
