Tampines car robbery foiled

Police arrested an 18-year-old youth yesterday for hurting a taxi driver while attempting to rob him near Block 260, Tampines Street 21.

Responding to queries from The New Paper, the police said they were alerted to the incident just after 5.50am.

Lianhe Wanbao reported that the 58-year-old cabby suffered injuries to the right side of his face and neck.

A witness, known only was Mr Yang, who was interviewed in the report, said he was going to buy newspapers when he noticed a commotion in the carpark.

He saw two men pinning the teenager to the ground before the police arrived.

The cabby told Mr Yang he had picked up the passenger in Geylang.

The teen sat in the back seat, and when the taxi arrived at the carpark, he suddenly grabbed the cabby's seat belt.

He then started punching the cabby on his face but the cabby fought back, reported Lianhe Wanbao.

The driver was taken to Changi General Hospital for treatment.

Police investigations are ongoing.
