Tampines residents get haze help pack

Education Minister Heng Swee Keat helped to deliver haze support packs to pioneer generation citizens and vulnerable residents in Tampines yesterday.

The five households Mr Heng visited in Block 871A, Tampines Central, were among 1,000 households in Tampines to receive the packs during the weekend.

Among the recipients were residents with mobility problems.

The haze, caused by illegal forest fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan, has blanketed parts of Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore in recent weeks.

The WeCare packs contained items such as Milo packets, sardines, thermometers, the new N95 masks, Vitamin C tablets, lozenges, eye drops and information about dealing with the haze as well as other healthcare tips.

Mr Heng, who is an MP for Tampines Group Representation Constituency, was joined by seven grassroots leaders and two resident volunteers.

More than 100 volunteers were involved in the distribution of the WeCare packs yesterday.

Mr Heng said he was happy to see many residents coming forward to contribute their time, effort and ideas towards making Tampines their home.
