Tampines woman charged with murder of her son

A woman was charged in court yesterday with the murder of her son on Saturday.

Koh Sook Hoon, 42, allegedly committed murder by causing the death of the boy, who is believed to be autistic, at 12.53pm that day.

The boy was found lying face down at the foot of a Housing Board block in Tampines. He was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

The boy was living in the ninth-floor flat with his parents, his older brother and his grandmother.

In court yesterday, Koh, who was unrepresented and clad in black long-sleeve top and bottom, looked down most of the time. She will be held at the Changi Women's Prison for psychiatric assessment until Oct 7 when her case will be mentioned.

District Judge May Mesenas ordered that the victim's name not be published.

Koh's husband and parents-in-law turned up in court yesterday. If convicted of murder, Koh faces the death penalty.

In June last year, a 31-year-old woman was charged with the murder of her nine-year-old son who was found unconscious at the foot of a HDB block in West Coast Road. He died later in hospital.
