Teacher found dead in Queenstown

A young Irish teacher was found dead in her apartment in Queenstown on Wednesday night. The police received a call at 10.59pm that night requesting assistance at a residential unit along Stirling Road, said a spokesman.

"Upon arrival, a female in her 20s was found lying motionless at the said location. She was subsequently pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene," she added.

Police have classified the case as an unnatural death and are investigating.

Miss Orla Daly was reportedly found dead in bed by her friend with whom she travelled to Singapore in January. She was believed to have taught English to young students here. The native of Clontarf, Dublin, was reportedly also a DJ and had worked in sales.

On Twitter, she had told friends that she "couldn't be happier", was "loving it so much over here" and that "everything had fallen into place".

The self-described optimist constantly referred to a motto of "live the life you love, love the life you live".

Tributes were posted on her Facebook page, with one friend saying that he would always remember her smile.

Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs is said to be offering assistance to her family.

Police say they are in contact with the Irish Embassy and they will be meeting Ms Daly's family, who have flown to Singapore, Saturday.
